There are many people who are prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. The reason could be a natural disaster, possible terrorist attack, foreign invasion, or collapse of our government. If you find yourself needing to run and in a hurry, you should have these important bug out bag supplies packed and ready to go. The idea is to have enough supplies to last three days not for long term survival. Just enough time to get you to a safe place or for rescue to arrive.

Clean drinking water is the most important thing you must have access to. The minimum amount necessary for survival is one liter per day per person. You can carry three liters, but if you plan on living longer than that, you need a purification system to carry. That can be accomplished with iodine tablets or a small kettle or pot for boiling water.

You are going to need energy while hiking or hiding. Protein bars and nuts are an excellent source of energy. Also, have camping freeze dried meals or military grade Meals Ready to Eat, (MRE). The MRE's can be eaten cold or hot and your pot for boiling water is the perfect place to heat them.

You will need to have clothing that you would wear while camping or backpacking ready also. Have a pair of sturdy boots or shoes sitting next to your pack so you can put them on as you evacuate. You also need to have two shirts for layering, a jacket that will keep you warm and protect you from the rain, a hat and bandana, two pairs of socks, and warm long underwear.

Have a tent or tarp along with a way to set up in your kit. You need to stay warm and dry to remember to also have a sleeping pad or good ground tarp included. These items will be useful if you have to stay out longer than three days. Don't forget a good bedroll or sleeping bag.

Plus, do not forget your first aid kit. You can purchase one that has already been put together but it is better to build your own. By doing it yourself, you know intimately what is in it and how to use it. Fill it with basics, then add items specific to your needs. You should have any prescription medications, allergy and diarrhea medicines, sun block, and instant cold/ice packs, in case of sprained ankles or wrists.

You might be thinking that is all you need, but no, there are more items that are also vital to survival. Such as a hatchet for cutting firewood, a knife for all kinds of uses, a small pot or large cup for boiling water to drink or heat food. You also need matches, a lighter, and know how to start a fire without either.

The sky may not be actually falling, as Chicken Little declared, but many people believe there is a real threat of disaster visiting us. You may not be able to close the door to it and wait it out. Be ready by having these items ready to go with you at a moments notice. It will give you the peace of mind being prepared can bring.
