Do you find it tough to stay in control of your eating during the holidays? If so, you are not alone. Holiday food and drinks are delicious. But if you overdo it, you will gain weight. As you try to live a healthy lifestyle throughout the holidays, consider these suggestions to stay on the road to health.

You don't have to totally deprive yourself during the holidays but you do have to have some willpower to say no. Do not try to convince yourself that you're going to eat less after the holidays therefore it is ok to eat what you want during the month of December. It will be much more difficult to go back to your clean eating plan if you have been eating badly.

It is a good idea to eat less for a few days before a big holiday celebration. The reason this works so well is because you will probably lose a little weight in the meantime and actually feel so great when the event happens that you will not want to overeat! You will have worked too hard to blow it!

Do wear your skinny jeans. When you look and feel slim you will eat less. Do not drink wine or beer. Go for hard alcohol if you must have something. Why? Because you can nurse a hard drink all night, but with wine and beer there's a higher chance you will want another. Do position yourself as far away from the appetizer table as possible.

Be sure that you do not sit down and start watching television. If you really want to watch something that is playing, just stand up the entire time you are watching it! It is better to walk around and socialize. Also, if you want to make sure that you are eating healthy at the party, just bring a dish to contribute that you know is safe to eat!

Finally, if you are having a party at your own house, do not allow people to leave leftover food at your house when they leave. You will be tempted if you have party food in your kitchen the next day. It is okay to keep healthy foods, like raw veggies, but make sure that your guests take all the fattening leftovers back home with them.
