Learning how to begin running for a five kilometer race can be difficult because it takes time, energy and motivation, but once you get started you will see that it is actually quite fun. Some people start off with this distance and then push themselves further until they are ready to run a marathon.

However, not everyone is suited to run marathons and you may want to just run shorter distances. Some people are happy to keep a slow steady pace and others are more competitive. There are different sorts of terrains that you can specialize in as well.

Probably the most important thing for any beginner to do is to find the right kind of shoes. There are many different types of shoes on the market. Many runners make the mistake by choosing their favorite color or choosing a certain look.

This is something you should avoid. Make sure you go to a proper running shop and ask someone who has knowledge in the field. They will be able to see the way you walk and can tell you what kind of shoes you will be needing. Different people will need different kinds of shoes so it is important that you do not skip this step.

Your diet is another thing to think about. If you are someone who is used to having a couple of drinks after dinner, coupled with a few chocolates, then you will soon have to change your eating habits. You will need to start drinking more water and focus on eating fruits, vegetables and protein.

Set yourself goals and find a program that is suitable. You may lead a busy lifestyle, but if you want to achieve your goals then you will need to plan a routine where you can fit your run into your day. Most people are able to do this and they feel a lot better after their run.

It is important to take at least one day off from your schedule. This is as important as your day that you are running. You need to relax your muscles and get them back to full strength. If you feel that your muscles are taking strain, then do not force yourself to get back on the road. You will be doing more harm than good. It is better to take a rest and recuperate.

If you find that you have not fully recovered, then you should seek medical advice because you may be using the wrong shoes or you may be suffering from an injury, such as runner's knee, which is fairly common. Most injuries can be dealt with these day. You just need a brace to place around the muscle that is giving you trouble. It is also a good idea to get a massage once in a while.

Once you learn how to begin running shorter races, you may want to train further and find that longer distances are more your thing. Some people find that trail running is also quite unique and it can also be relaxing.
